[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A YouTuber known as the "self-employed killer" has been apprehended by the police. He is a figure who has been running a YouTube broadcast in Cheongju, Chungbuk, repeatedly disrupting the business operations of self-employed individuals.

On the 5th, the Cheongju Heungdeok Police Station in Chungbuk announced that YouTuber A (25) has been booked without detention on charges of obstruction of business and is under investigation. According to the police, A is suspected of visiting a karaoke practice room in Heungdeok-gu on the 31st of last month and disrupting business by claiming without any basis that it was operating illegally.

A is known to operate a YouTube channel with about 5,700 subscribers. He mainly films videos with the concept of disrupting business while going around restaurant districts and karaoke rooms in downtown Cheongju. He begs self-employed people or provokes disputes with insults and informal speech.

He also broadcast live on YouTube a confrontation with police officers who responded to a report. In the video, when the police said, "You have to go to the police station," A shouted, "Wait an hour until I finish eating." When the police called his name, A responded, "Why?" The police’s words, "How many times is this? Stop it," reveal A’s habitual business disruption behavior.

In fact, there seem to be quite a few self-employed people who suffered damages due to A. A netizen who runs a pub in Cheongju complained through an online community that A disrupted business by filming inside the store without permission.

The netizen stated, "It was my day off, so my mother was running the business alone, but suddenly a person claiming to be a YouTuber came and started broadcasting without asking for consent." He added, "Suddenly, the store was flooded with international calls and Naver calls, and whenever we answered, the calls were disconnected repeatedly. It paralyzed the business."

In response, the netizen’s mother asked A to turn off the broadcast because of the overwhelming number of calls, but A refused, saying, "The viewers are the ones doing it, not me." A also live-streamed a situation where he got into an argument with a customer at that time.

Besides this, several posts containing complaints from self-employed people who suffered damages from A have been posted on the community.

Meanwhile, A reportedly stated during the police investigation, "I did it to broadcast." The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the case, including any additional crimes committed by A. It is also known that investigations into A are underway at other police stations in the Cheongju area besides the Heungdeok Police Station. The police are considering consolidating the cases.
