[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province (Mayor Lee Haksoo) is expanding the Jeongeup Senior Club, which is in charge of senior-friendly social activities and senior jobs, and is starting full-scale operations.
According to the city on the 5th, the Jeongeup Senior Club is an institution that develops and distributes specialized jobs for the elderly and is fully responsible for education and training.
The existing Senior Club had limited space such as classrooms and counseling rooms compared to the increasing number of elderly participants and staff every year, causing inconvenience in use.
Accordingly, to solve the space shortage problem, the city expanded the Senior Club on a site at 203-2 Chungjeong-ro with a total project cost of 600 million KRW, with a building area of 161.01㎡ and two floors above ground.
The newly completed Senior Club is equipped with a "Love Lunchbox" workshop and warehouse, offices, and classrooms.
The Senior Club is operated under consignment by the social welfare corporation Samyuk Foundation and plans to carry out projects such as creating senior jobs, senior job education, and building a senior workforce database.
In particular, it will promote a project to produce and deliver lunchboxes seven days a week for about 340 elderly people who have difficulty living and mobility and find it hard to prepare meals on their own, contributing to the improvement of senior welfare.
As of last month, the population of seniors aged 65 and over in the city is 30,977.
With the elderly ratio exceeding 29.3%, entering a super-aged society, the demand for various senior jobs is increasing.
Accordingly, the Jeongeup Senior Club is not limited to simple job creation but is discovering community-based senior job projects that utilize the advantages of the region through continuous communication with the local community.
Currently, it is promoting 10 public interest-type, 7 social service-type, 6 market-type, and 1 employment referral-type projects, managing about 1,880 elderly participants in senior jobs within the region.
A city official said, "The expansion of the Senior Club has resolved the facility shortage problem," and added, "We will do our best to support various jobs and social activities so that the elderly can lead a healthy old age."
