[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education is expanding the SW-AI education environment improvement project to establish a foundation where any student can easily unleash their imagination and challenge themselves through SW-AI, and utilize and consume AI.

Through the first supplementary budget allocation, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to support a total of 7.02 billion KRW for the environment improvement project to revitalize SW-AI education in schools.

Following the establishment of 5 schools in the first half, the SW-AI Education Filling Classroom construction project in the second half will add 15 more schools, creating an information education space that supports learners' autonomy, sharing, collaboration, and communication, and promotes creative and flexible thinking.

After construction, the SW-AI Education Filling Classrooms will be continuously utilized as spaces for SW-AI convergence education through operational expense support for three years, aimed at developing various SW-AI education class models and discovering and spreading excellent cases.

To enhance the quality of classes and learning using SW-AI convergence education teaching aids, the purchase cost of teaching aids, around 10 million KRW, will be expanded in the second half for 200 elementary, middle, and high schools, supporting the necessary SW-AI teaching aids for regular curricula and club activities more than in the first half.

The teaching aid support project will include not only physical computing coding teaching aids for activities linked to SW-AI convergence education but also the software and content necessary for SW-AI convergence education.

Through this, it is expected to expand opportunities for student-led classes linked to real life using teaching aids and provide chances to improve problem-solving skills and computational thinking.

To create an environment where AI technology can be understood and utilized through interaction with AI robots in schools, a pilot project supporting the purchase of AI smart robots will also be operated.

The AI Smart Robot Purchase Support Pilot Project plans to support AI smart robot purchase costs of around 20 million KRW for 175 schools (82 elementary, 46 middle, 43 high, and 4 special schools), enabling the use of AI smart robots in educational activities such as coding education, data search, docent, promotion, autonomous driving, and AI voice conversation.

It is expected that this will create various AI robot utilization education models according to school conditions in the field.

Policy Director Park Jonghwal said, “We will do our best to revitalize AI education in Gyeongbuk by continuously supporting the creation of an AI education environment where students can fully demonstrate their convergent thinking skills using the latest smart devices and AI robots.”
