Showcasing World-Class Media Art Exhibition
Opening Commemorative Exhibition Parts 1 & 2, Media Art Contest, Light Festival Linked Exhibition, and Year-Round Media Art Operations
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 5th that it will create a large-scale media facade on the outer wall of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts so that all citizens visiting the newly opened Gwanghwamun Square can enjoy it.
The newly introduced media facade at Gwanghwamun is a large wide facade (Chamber Hall wall 44×11m, Grand Theater right wall 13×11m) that projects beam images on the front and side of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, installed with world-class specifications of 50,000 ANSI lumens.
Starting from the 6th, the lighting of the media facade will be announced at Gwanghwamun Square in conjunction with the opening ceremony of Gwanghwamun Square. The first exhibition commemorating the opening, "Raonhaje," under the subtitle "Cooling off on a summer night," will present five media art works expressing modern people's rest and healing experiences in the digital realm from the 7th to September 15th.
The opening exhibition "Raonhaje" begins with Lee In-nam's "Energy Vitality_Sea of Life," which cools the hot summer night with the refreshing waves, followed by Lee Kyung-don's warm emotional animation.
On the 15th, marking the 77th anniversary of Liberation Day, Seoul City will also showcase the media art work "Hamsung" expressing the joy of liberation until the 27th, alongside the opening exhibition works. "Hamsung," participated by artist Lee Jin-jun, is a media collage work that transforms the sounds of that day into images and then reinterprets the images into music through collaboration with a composer, offering a special experience to feel both the dynamic energy of today's Republic of Korea and the excitement of Liberation Day at the same time.
This year, the overall planning and operation supervision of the Gwanghwamun Square media facade exhibition is led by artistic director Lee Jin-jun, director of the KAIST Museum and professor at the KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology. The Gwanghwamun Square media facade will sequentially present four exhibitions until January next year, including "Opening Exhibition Parts 1 and 2," "Seoul City-KT Media Art Contest," and "Seoul Light-Gwanghwa Light Festival Linked Exhibition."
An 'authentication shot event' is also prepared for citizens visiting the site. During the opening week of the Gwanghwamun Square media facade, citizens who visit the square, film the media facade video, and upload it on their Instagram with hashtags will be entered into a draw to receive small gifts.
Joo Yong-tae, head of Seoul City's Culture Headquarters, said, "We will prepare diverse programs so that all citizens visiting Gwanghwamun Square can enjoy world-class, high-quality media works 365 days a year."
