[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The China-Japan foreign ministers' meeting scheduled to be held in Cambodia on the 4th was canceled.


According to Japanese media such as Kyodo News and Yomiuri Shimbun on the day, Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, and Yoshimasa Hayashi, Japan's Foreign Minister, were originally scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) foreign ministers' meeting held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, but it did not take place.


This China-Japan foreign ministers' meeting had raised expectations as it was to be held for the first time in 1 year and 9 months. Regarding the cancellation of the meeting, Kyodo News analyzed that "the situation in Taiwan may have had an influence." China strongly opposed the visit of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, to Taiwan.


NHK reported that China notified the cancellation just before the China-Japan foreign ministers' meeting.
