[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jeong-wan] An accident occurred on the Jungbu Expressway when an aluminum foam flew in and pierced the driver's side window.
On the 3rd, the Korean National Police Agency's Facebook page posted several photos of the accident under the title "Sudden disaster flying on the highway."
According to the police agency, this metal piece was an aluminum foam measuring 50 cm in width and 20 cm in length, which had been loaded on a cargo truck and fell off. The aluminum foam was kicked up by a vehicle ahead and struck the vehicle behind.

The police launched a search to apprehend the offending vehicle to prevent further accidents, but the accident area was not covered by CCTV. The only clue left behind was the aluminum foam found at the scene.
While examining the fallen aluminum foam, the police discovered a small alphabet sticker, which helped them identify the company responsible.

The police stated, "After extensive nationwide inquiries, we identified the related company and, based on the clues, thoroughly searched the surrounding area, successfully identifying the suspect."
Cargo transport operators are required to take necessary measures such as covers and securing devices to prevent loaded cargo from falling off. Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to 10 million KRW. If a person is injured or killed, the offender may face imprisonment of up to 5 years or a fine of up to 20 million KRW.
