[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) invited an admissions officer from Seoul National University and held the ‘2023 Academic Year Seoul National University Admissions Briefing’ on the 1st at the 8th-floor auditorium of the district office.

The district organized this event to provide the most up-to-date and accurate Seoul National University admissions information to parents and high school students who had difficulty obtaining information due to the spread of COVID-19, helping them adapt to the changing admissions environment and enhance their competitiveness.

Especially this year, unlike last year’s online non-face-to-face event, it was held as an in-person event where information could be shared and questions could be directly addressed.

The admissions briefing, held for two hours from 6 p.m., provided detailed explanations about the 2023 Seoul National University admissions process and the comprehensive student record screening system.

There was also a Q&A session with the admissions officer to resolve questions, offering a valuable time that provided practical help to individual participants.

Currently, the district operates the ‘Gwanak Career and Job Experience Support Center’ year-round, which offers customized career and academic guidance programs tailored to elementary, middle, and high school levels, including career counseling, special lectures, and job experiences.

In particular, the Gwanak Career and Job Experience Support Center supports various academic information programs such as 1:1 high school and university entrance consulting through the ‘Career Admissions Counseling Room’ to assist with academic choices, and operates the YouTube channel ‘Jinroipsi Deokhu’ (Career Admissions Enthusiast).

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “We prepared this admissions briefing to assist students and parents in the district who lack information,” adding, “I hope this was a valuable opportunity for outstanding local talents with creativity and potential to obtain accurate admissions information.”

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) won the top prize in the election pledge book category at the ‘2022 Manifesto Promise Awards’ hosted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters during the 8th local government term.

This is a remarkable achievement, following the top prize in the same category at the ‘2018 Manifesto Promise Awards’ during the 7th local government term, marking two consecutive wins.

The Manifesto Promise Awards aim to discover and spread excellent cases of manifestos in election pledge books and election brochures by evaluating the pledge books and brochures of candidates for local government heads, superintendents, and others running in local elections, awarding top prizes and others.

The evaluation comprehensively assessed the implementation pledges based on ▲specificity of goals ▲clarity of priorities ▲systematic implementation procedures ▲rationality of implementation periods ▲stability of funding plans ▲alignment with philosophy and vision ▲democracy in the drafting process.

Mayor Park received high praise for presenting six major goals and 51 implementation tasks based on his 16 years of legislative experience as a Gwanak-gu council member for 8 years and Seoul city council member for 8 years, as well as 4 years leading the Gwanak district office, enabling him to identify local issues first and execute them steadily.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “To draw an innovative leap roadmap for the 8th local government term, we will steadily implement the policy tasks confirmed by the ‘Policy Planning Team’ step by step and realize a developed and transformed Gwanak in four years,” adding, “I will do my utmost with a humble attitude and modest mindset for the future of Gwanak.”

The district presented the vision and goals of ‘The 8th Local Government Term Together Leading Gwanak-gu,’ a new leap forward based on innovation, inclusion, and cooperation.

The six district administration goals promised to residents over the next four years include ‘Gwanak S-Valley 2.0 and revitalization of neighborhood economy’ under the innovative and cooperative ‘Together Economy,’ ‘Together Welfare’ as a warm Gwanak community embracing all, ‘Youth Special City Gwanak’ as the youngest and most vigorous, ‘Leading Education and Culture’ to blossom the Gwanak Renaissance, ‘Clean and Safe Living Environment Gwanak’ as a sustainable city, and ‘Innovative Gwanak Office’ working smartly together on all matters.

In particular, Mayor Park said, “We have laid the foundation for the youngest and most vigorous Youth Special City Gwanak by establishing the nation’s first Youth Culture Bureau and operating the Youth Office, and we will definitely create a national role model for youth policies in Gwanak,” expressing ambitions fitting the district’s top youth population ratio nationwide.

Mayor Park Jun-hee was recognized for various achievements such as a 96.2% pledge fulfillment rate during the 7th local government term, attracting 894.2 billion KRW in external funds, and designation as a venture business promotion district, and was selected as the top (SA) district head in the ‘Basic Local Government Heads Pledge Fulfillment and Information Disclosure Evaluation’ last March.

Mayor Park said, “I am pleased to be the only Seoul district mayor to receive the top prize twice consecutively in the ‘Election Pledge Book Promise Awards’ category,” adding, “As I have been entrusted again, I will not lose my original intention and will continue to create the great history of Gwanak together with 500,000 residents for a happier Gwanak.”
