[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 1st that it secured 10.2 billion KRW in national funding by confirming two projects in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2022 Regional Development Public Contest': the Sinan-gun Investment Leading District and the Haenam-gun Regional Demand Customized Support Project.
The regional development public contest aims to support national funds and others tailored to regional conditions and demands for growth promotion areas with poor population and infrastructure. The project types are Investment Leading District and Regional Demand Customized Support Project.
In this year's contest, Sinan was the only one nationwide selected as an Investment Leading District, securing 7.8 billion KRW in national funding. Haenam secured 2.4 billion KRW.
This amount corresponds to 31% of the total project cost of 32.7 billion KRW for 11 projects selected nationwide, representing a 36% increase compared to the 7.5 billion KRW secured in last year's contest.
On Jaeun-do Island in Sinan, a tourism complex including accommodation facilities such as hotels and resorts, as well as a multipurpose cultural center, is currently being developed.
Sinan-gun plans to expand insufficient infrastructure such as access roads and parking lots through this project, creating a synergy effect with the Cheonsa Bridge connecting the mainland and the island, and fostering the area as a key tourism region on the southwest coast.
Additionally, they plan to expand local cultural and artistic events and festivals and activate international exchanges among young people in the cultural and artistic fields, aiming to make Sinan not only a marine leisure tourism destination but also a hub for cultural and artistic exchange.
In Haenam, residents, schools, and local governments are working together to attract households transferring in and out to save Bukil Elementary School, which is facing the risk of closure.
Haenam-gun plans to supply demand-customized public rental housing (15 units), children's libraries, gymnasiums, and other convenience facilities, as well as create safe school routes to help the incoming population settle in the area.
