Setting the Vision for Goheung Cultural City, Advancing 22 Detailed Projects
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it is accelerating the creation of Goheung Cultural City by holding a project briefing session titled “A Caring City Together, Goheung Cultural City” at the Goheung County Office Space Hall on the 29th, while promoting the designation as a cultural city.
The briefing session was organized by the Goheung Cultural City Center (Director Kim Ju-yeol) and attended by about 100 people including members of the cultural motam and residents. It began with an explanation of the cultural city creation plan and was designed as a time to think and discuss together with the residents.
Following this, an explanation of the regional culture revitalization project and a Q&A session were held to resolve residents’ questions about the project and to collect various opinions, concluding the event.
The Goheung Cultural City creation plan is based on the region’s unique community culture ‘Gapgye’ and sets the vision of ‘A Caring City Together, Goheung.’ It includes a total of 22 projects, including three area projects, specialized projects, and foundational projects.
The three area projects are ▲ ‘515 Village Companionship’ project, which leads support and solidarity among Goheung’s 515 villages centered on resident communities ▲ ‘Gaengbeon·Healing’ project, which aims for comfort and support based on the value of Goheung’s natural ecosystem including Deukryang Bay ▲ ‘Youth·Space’ project, which supports Goheung-gun’s future generation, the youth, encouraging dreams of challenge and innovation.
The specialized project is planned as a cultural re-localization strategy that culturally reinterprets Goheung’s nature and industrial environment?agriculture and fisheries, tourism (travel), and mudflats (seaside)?and aims for resettlement within the region.
Gong Young-min, Governor of Goheung-gun, said, “I hope this project briefing session will raise residents’ awareness of the cultural city creation project and serve as an opportunity to take a step forward toward the cultural city.” He added, “We plan to support various resident-initiated projects so that culture can permeate the lives of residents in Goheung, and we ask for your interest and participation.”
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun passed the first stage of the written examination in the 5th cultural city designation contest promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and was selected as a city for on-site review. It is steadily preparing for the selection of the 5th preliminary cultural city in September and is accelerating pre-preparations aiming for the designation of the 5th statutory cultural city in October 2023.
