According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, a total of 42,883 people tested positive for COVID-19 across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
This is 27,308 fewer than the previous day's count at the same time (70,191).
It is 1.22 times the number from a week ago on the 24th (35,107) and 1.7 times the number from two weeks ago on the 17th (25,079).
Since early this month, the number of new cases had been doubling approximately every week, but the increase has slowed down since mid-last week.
With time remaining until midnight when the count is finalized, the number of new cases announced on the 1st is expected to be in the mid-40,000 range.
