[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] A man in his 20s who caused a chain collision involving seven vehicles while driving under the influence has been apprehended by the police.
On the 31st, the Namdong Police Station in Incheon announced that they are investigating a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, on charges including drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Mr. A is accused of driving his passenger car under the influence of alcohol around 8:30 a.m. on a four-lane road located in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, and colliding with a vehicle waiting at a traffic signal. It was reported that Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration exceeded 0.08%, the legal limit for license cancellation.
The impact caused a chain reaction, resulting in a total of seven vehicles colliding, including five passenger cars, one small truck, and one taxi, including Mr. A's vehicle. Two passengers in the taxi were transported to a nearby hospital by the 119 emergency medical team and are receiving treatment.
The police have secured vehicle black box footage and nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) videos to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.
