Haenam-gun Develops 'Segyeui Ttangkkeut Park'

The Ends of the World's Six Continents Gathered in One Place... Completion at the End of This Month, Open for Viewing Next Month

Haenam-gun Develops 'Segyeui Ttangkkeut Park'

[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] On the 28th, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it is preparing to create the "World's Land's End Park," where you can see the land's end points of the six continents of the world at a glance, in the village of Ttangkkeut.

The park, covering an area of 13,000㎡ near the monorail that goes up to the Ttangkkeut Observatory, features sculptures shaped like the land's end points of the world’s continents and gardens symbolizing the six continents along the walking paths.

The land's end points of the six continents include Cabo da Roca in Portugal, Table Mountain in Africa, El Arco de Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, the Eclaire Lighthouse in Argentina, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and the Ttangkkeut Tower in Haenam-gun’s Ttangkkeut Village.

Along with scaled-down sculptures, the park includes information boards explaining the significance of each continent’s land's end point, and the layout is designed so that folk music from each continent plays along the route.

In particular, the exotic landscaping combined with a location offering a panoramic view of the Ttangkkeut tourist site and the sea is expected to become another landmark of Ttangkkeut Village.

The World's Land's End Park project, which has been underway since 2018, was designed by collecting opinions from experts and residents through multiple working meetings, landscape reviews, and resident briefings.

The sculptures representing the six continents were selected through a public contest, and their sizes were reduced based on expert advice so that local tourists can use them as photo zones.

The county plans to complete the "World's Land's End Park" by the end of this month and open it to tourists starting next month. The landscaping of gardens symbolizing the six continents will also be reinforced annually to develop the park into a differentiated space that highlights the unique characteristics of Ttangkkeut Haenam.

Myeong Hyun-gwan, the mayor of Haenam-gun, said, "Ttangkkeut Village is an aging tourist destination with a strong image but lacking in attractions and entertainment compared to its unique brand value in Korea," and added, "We will do our utmost to operate the park so that the Ttangkkeut tourist site can make a second leap forward with the creation of the World's Land's End Park."
