Dongkook Pharmaceutical Launches 'Gum Health 24 Campaign'... "Essential Gum Care for High Blood Sugar and Diabetes"

Dongkook Pharmaceutical Launches 'Gum Health 24 Campaign'... "Essential Gum Care for High Blood Sugar and Diabetes" Photos from the Insadol Plus Oral Health Day Commemoration Campaign.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Dongkook Pharmaceutical announced on the 27th that it will carry out the 'Gum Health 24 Campaign' to raise awareness of the importance of gum health by introducing various studies related to gums.

This campaign will be conducted monthly by delivering the message "Life is healthy only when gums are healthy," along with various information such as gum care and the relationship between gum disease and systemic diseases.

The campaign began in April with research published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, which examined the association between high blood sugar, one of the five risk factors of metabolic syndrome, and gum disease (periodontal disease).

High blood sugar refers to fasting plasma glucose levels of 100 mg/dL or higher, or a diagnosis of diabetes (126 mg/dL or higher). In such cases, measurements of gum bleeding, periodontal pocket depth, and clinical attachment loss showed a higher severity of gum disease (periodontal disease). The paper explained that high blood sugar increases the severity of gum disease because it has mechanisms that directly and indirectly cause immune cell dysfunction, imbalance of inflammatory mediators, and promote the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the gums.

The number of adults in Korea with high blood sugar increased by 650,000 over five years, from 5.37 million in 2016 to 6.02 million in 2020, highlighting the urgent need for active gum care. Periodontist Dr. Kim Nam-yoon (Kim Nam-yoon Periodontal Dental Clinic) said, "Gum disease (periodontal disease) actually increases the incidence of systemic diseases such as diabetes, lung disease, arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and stroke, and also makes it difficult to maintain a healthy diet, so public interest in gum health is necessary." He added, "The alveolar bone is the gum bone that firmly holds the teeth. Just as a strong foundation is necessary to build a good house, managing the alveolar bone well is important for the long-term success, maintenance, and care of implants placed in the alveolar bone."

For gum health, it is important to follow basic oral health rules such as ▲brushing teeth properly ▲regular dental visits ▲additional gum care with medication. Along with regular brushing and dental check-ups, consistently taking gum medicine like Insadol Plus, which strengthens the alveolar bone and has antibacterial effects, is helpful. Insadol Plus is an over-the-counter drug available at pharmacies, containing a herbal complex of corn silk quantitative extract and magnolia extract. It acts simultaneously on the outer gums (gingiva) mainly through the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects of magnolia extract, and on the inner gums mainly through the strengthening effects of corn silk quantitative extract on the alveolar bone and periodontal ligament.
