[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, urged to put all efforts into enhancing the execution of local pending projects related to the new government’s national agenda, which is about to be announced.
He also ordered to accelerate the final thorough review of the vision and tasks for the 8th elected term and the establishment of detailed execution plans going forward.
At the policy meeting with department heads held on the 26th, Governor Kim emphasized, “We must strive to ensure that Jeonnam’s pending projects included in the new government’s national agenda are fully executed by securing government budget allocations.”
He continued, “Let’s carefully analyze other government policy tasks to identify usable ones, establish customized plans, and propose support accordingly.”
He also stated, “Since the Ministry of Justice recently decided to pilot a ‘region-specialized visa’ system based on local government demand, prepare a Jeonnam-type manpower strategy to properly supply necessary personnel in fields such as agriculture, fisheries, and small and medium ventures. Develop programs that fit the Ministry of Justice’s system well, and if insufficient, find more innovative alternatives and propose them.”
Governor Kim plans to meet with the Minister of Justice around August 7 to propose local issues such as foreign workforce supply and the visa-free entry system at Muan International Airport.
He urged, “Work well with the Vision and Pledge Committee of the 8th elected term, which is in the final stages, to enhance the completeness of the 100 major tasks across eight sectors. These tasks will form the foundation of provincial administration for the next four years, so follow-up work such as budget securing, project planning, and execution plans must be carried out smoothly and swiftly to realize ‘A Great Leap Forward Soaring to the World! Jeonnam Happiness Era.’”
He also expressed his commitment to regional balanced development among cities and counties.
Governor Kim said, “Through the ‘Jeonnam-type Regional Growth Strategic Industry’ contest, which supports 10 billion KRW per city and county, 12 cities and counties were selected over the past three years to support core driving forces. For the remaining 10 cities and counties, let’s avoid contests and instead receive project plans collectively, prioritize them based on plans and balanced development indicators, and support them step-by-step.”
He further mentioned, “For projects that the province can handle directly, such as the Namdo Military History Museum or the Provincial Art Museum, we will do so. If cities or counties have large-scale project ideas worth over 30 billion KRW, such as islands or forest parks, we need to continuously accept and support them, considering regional balance comprehensively.”
Regarding the resurgence of COVID-19, he instructed, “From within the office, conduct thorough quarantine measures such as temperature checks for visitors, and show exemplary systematic blocking efforts in the public sector by performing rapid tests when returning from business trips, vacations, or days off. Especially, carefully implement necessary support measures such as providing rapid test kits to vulnerable groups within the province.”
About the recently launched public delivery app ‘Meokgaebi,’ he said, “Promote well that using the public delivery app benefits both residents and small business owners more than using private apps. In particular, increase affiliated stores quickly through exceptional incentives so that consumers do not experience inconvenience.”
