[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do is focusing administrative efforts to prevent water pollution during the summer and create a clean environment.
The county announced on the 26th that it is operating a "Special Monitoring and Crackdown Period on Environmental Pollution Activities" until the end of next month.
The county will prevent pollutants from entering public water bodies in advance through a thorough inspection of wastewater discharge facilities at business sites.
This month, efforts will be made on prior publicity and guidance, and from the end of this month to mid-next month, intensive monitoring, crackdowns, and patrol activities will be strengthened. By the end of next month, facility restoration and technical support will be promoted to improve pointed-out issues.
Strict measures will be taken against businesses found to have committed intentional or habitual violations such as unauthorized wastewater discharge and abnormal operation of pollution facilities.
A county official said, "We will effectively block and improve environmental pollution factors by operating a three-step special monitoring system of guidance, crackdown, and restoration," and urged continuous self-inspection and management of facilities discharging environmental pollutants.
In preparation for the increase in tourism demand during the summer vacation season, the county is also operating a garbage collection and disposal team at popular resorts. Target areas include Namchang Valley, Baekyangsa Temple, Hwangryong River, Bangjangsan Mountain, and Jangseongho Tourist Site, among 10 locations.
The county plans to operate a mobile cleaning team for 30 days until the 12th of next month, promote guidance and crackdowns on illegal dumping, and collect abandoned garbage until September 18.
The frequency of household waste collection has also been increased. In addition to the existing twice-weekly collection, the county collects garbage on weekends to reduce odors and pest occurrences.
County Governor Kim Hanjong said, "We will thoroughly manage so that residents and tourists visiting Jangseong do not experience inconvenience," adding, "Through creating a clean environment, we will improve the quality of life for residents and build a bright future for the region."
