Gyeonggi Bukbu Police Agency Arrests 4,201 Robbery, Theft, and Violence Offenders in 100 Days... 66 Detained


[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency announced on the 26th that "from April 4th, a 100-day intensive crackdown on robbery, theft, and violent offenders was conducted, resulting in the arrest of 4,201 individuals."


Additionally, among 11 suspects involved in 8 robbery cases during this period, 9 were detained. Out of 2,372 theft cases, suspects in 1,720 cases (72.5%) totaling 1,471 individuals were also apprehended, with 42 detained.


Through tracking stolen goods, 1,450 items worth approximately 1.139 billion KRW were recovered.


A major case involved the arrest and detention of a suspect who fled after attempting to steal money using a gas sprayer at the Saemaeul Geumgo in Namyangju City on the 20th of last month, caught 8 days later.


Earlier in April, a suspect who broke into a jewelry store in Yangju City, assaulted the owner, and fled with about 200 million KRW worth of precious metals was also detained.


Regarding violent offenders, 2,719 were arrested and 15 detained, marking an approximately 70% increase compared to the period before the crackdown (January to March).


The locations of violent crimes were mostly in everyday surroundings such as streets, shops, and public transportation, accounting for 2,590 cases (95.4%).


Next were workplaces such as offices, factories, and construction sites with 113 cases (4.2%). Medical sites including hospitals and quarantine areas accounted for 11 cases (0.4%).


Safety measures were taken for 27 crime victims through the provision of smartwatches, customized patrols, and linkage to protective facilities. Summary trials were requested for 120 first-time and minor offenders.


A representative from the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency stated, "We will continue to crack down on robbery, theft, and violent crimes, which are representative offenses infringing on the livelihood of the people."
