Why Did Lee Gijae, Yangcheon-gu Mayor, Organize Integrity Training for Organizational Leaders in 2022?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) conducted an integrity leadership training session on the 25th at the Yangcheon Digital Media Center for 65 senior officials at grade 5 and above to realize integrity administration that residents can feel.

This training was organized to share ethical leadership qualities required of organizational leaders and practical methods for operating an honest organization.

During the training, Kim Jeong-hyun, a specialist instructor from the Integrity Training Institute, covered topics under the theme "Integrity Leadership Essential for Public Institution Leaders," including ▲ ways to encourage free and creative capabilities of members ▲ integrity leadership to enhance organizational trust ▲ intergenerational communication methods for a desirable organizational culture ▲ and case studies on the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, the Anti-Graft Act, and the Code of Conduct for Public Officials.

Following the training for senior officials, the district plans to conduct anti-corruption and integrity education separately for middle managers and all employees in August. Through education utilizing various cultural contents, the concept of 'integrity' will be established and internalized as an organizational culture.

Additionally, since June this year, the district has been promoting the "2022 Yangcheon Integrity 7 Major Practice Tasks" to eliminate corrupt acts and unreasonable practices within the organization and foster an honest organizational culture.

Furthermore, to eliminate old practices that hinder a horizontal organizational culture such as workplace power harassment and the so-called 'Kkondae' culture, various practice tasks tailored to each department's characteristics are also being implemented.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "Through this training, I hope senior officials will reflect on the importance and value of integrity and take the lead in creating a transparent and fair organizational culture trusted by residents." He added, "We will continue to seek various ways to improve integrity and do our best to spread the culture of integrity."

Yangcheon-gu has received a comprehensive integrity grade of level 2 for six consecutive years through rigorous integrity policies involving all employees, such as integrity report simulation training, integrity campaigns, integrity practice weeks, and operating the anonymous reporting channel for corruption and power harassment, 'Haewoori Integrity Talk.'

Seocho-gu’s nationwide first music culture district, ‘Seoripul Instrument Street,’ is enlivening the district with high-quality classical performances by music artists at various locations.

Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced that it will operate the relay concert-style ‘Classic Dabang’ until October to revitalize small performance venues along Banpodaero to the Seoul Arts Center area of Seoripul Instrument Street and provide performance opportunities for cultural artists.

‘Classic Dabang’ means ‘enjoying classical music in various ways.’ It is a project that supports performances by providing subsidies in collaboration with private venues and cultural artists within Seoripul Instrument Street, allowing residents to enjoy classical concerts without burden and offering opportunities to experience cultural and artistic performances. Since its inception in 2019, over 300 artists have participated in 95 concerts.

This year, a total of 98 young and mid-career artists are participating, with 25 concerts scheduled starting from the 16th. Especially to help the long-stagnated performance industry recover from COVID-19, the number of participating venues has expanded from 13 last year to 15 this year. The district also provides 2.5 million KRW per concert as performance support funds.

Major performances this year include original and diverse planned concerts such as string and wind ensembles, jazz, and vocal music, held about six times monthly. Representative concerts include ▲ ‘Salon Concert with Requests and Stories’ where requests and stories are accepted ▲ ‘Heritage of Korea? Pungnyu,’ a collaboration between Western and Korean traditional instruments ▲ and ‘Candlelight Movie Music Concert’ themed on familiar film music.

The district has worked hard to select competitive venues and performance teams for the ‘Classic Dabang’ project. In May, a review committee composed of experts selected venues and teams, and in June, consulting education was provided to share planning know-how with the selected groups.

The district expects the ‘Classic Dabang’ project to have a twofold effect: expanding the musical culture base by providing performance opportunities to local venues and artists, and offering residents cultural healing through diverse music performances.

Going forward, the district plans to reflect the results of audience satisfaction surveys and other monitoring after performances in next year’s project activation.

Performances in Classic Dabang are free, with some concerts available for paid admission. For details, please refer to the Seocho-gu district office website and Seocho Cultural Foundation website.

Meanwhile, besides Classic Dabang, the district runs various projects to promote music culture and provide cultural and artistic performance opportunities for residents. Notable projects include ▲ ‘Visiting Flower Seat Concert,’ which brings classical, jazz, and other genres of music to outdoor spaces such as parks, plazas, and streets ▲ ‘Seocho Chamber Music Festival,’ featuring young artists performing mainly classical music ▲ and ‘Classic Instrument Exploration Life,’ a tour program for elementary students to see, hear, and enjoy classical instruments.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “We will continue to prepare various support measures for performance venues and music cultural artists, which have been stagnant due to COVID-19, and also strive to alleviate residents’ cultural thirst.”

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will operate the ‘2022 Summer Vacation Songpa Children’s Broadcasting Academy’ from August 3 to 12 during the summer vacation.

The district has been holding the broadcasting academy since 2011 to provide children with career exploration opportunities and allow those dreaming of broadcasting media to experience the field and explore their interests.

The program targets 36 students in grades 4 to 6 attending elementary schools in the area. From the first week of August, there will be three sessions (8/3?8/4, 8/8?8/9, 8/10?8/11), each lasting two hours per day, providing vivid broadcasting experiences. Participation is free, and applications are accepted through the Songpa Learn education portal until July 29.

Participating children will receive customized lessons from four current PDs and one announcer from Songpa TV broadcasting station, covering broadcasting theory and practice. On the first day, with the help of broadcasting experts, they will conduct pre-practice for news production in groups, including ▲ animation dubbing ▲ idea meetings and scriptwriting.

On the second day, aiming to complete the news, they will shoot necessary scenes according to the theme, such as filming historical and cultural local landmarks like Bangi-dong Ancient Tomb Cluster and studio recording. At the completion ceremony on August 12, all participants will attend, watch the videos they made with their families, and share their impressions. The completed videos will also be published on the district’s official YouTube channel, Songpa TV.

Kim Su-jeong, Media Strategy Team Leader, said, “This program was planned to help children directly experience media technology and find their aptitude,” adding, “We will operate the academy to help children have a meaningful vacation and increase curiosity about related careers through field experience.”
