Pukyong National University Student Wins Excellence Award at the 27th National University Model United Nations Conference

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] A student team consisting of Lee Jae-eun, a junior in the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Pukyong National University, and Ha Su-yeon, a freshman in the Department of International Trade, received the Excellence Award at the 27th National University Model United Nations Conference.

The students participated in the 2nd Committee at the recent conference hosted by the United Nations Association of Korea, organized by Handong Global University, and sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they earned the Excellence Award for outstanding meetings and debate activities.

The conference, which involved about 240 students from 30 universities nationwide, was conducted in a format where participants engaged in activities to seek solutions on international issues under three different committees.

Participants took part in meetings and debates over three nights and four days on agendas such as the 1st Committee’s “International Conflict Situations and Strengthening the UN’s Contributions,” the 2nd Committee’s “Measures to Secure Development Financing for Achieving the SDGs in the COVID-19 Situation,” and the 3rd Committee’s “International Efforts to Respond to and Prevent Terrorism and Violent Extremism.”

The Model United Nations Conference, the largest university-level international conference event in Korea, was launched in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and conducts meetings according to the actual rules of procedure of the UN General Assembly.
