Gijang-gun Cannot Accept NC Medi Medical Waste Incineration Plant New Business Plan

Gijang-gun Cannot Accept NC Medi Medical Waste Incineration Plant New Business Plan

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Gijang-gun has expressed its position that it cannot accept the business plan for a new medical waste incineration facility by NC Medi, a medical waste incineration company located in Jeonggwan-eup.

On the 8th, NC Medi submitted a business plan to the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office to install and operate a new incineration facility five times the size of the existing one on the site in Yerim-ri, Jeonggwan-eup.

They intend to close the existing incineration facility and operate the new one once the installation permit is granted.

Currently, NC Medi had submitted a change permit application last year to increase the incineration capacity of the existing facility by five times, and the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office requested an environmental impact assessment and supplementary measures for the incineration facility.

On the 22nd, Gijang-gun collected opinions from Jeonggwan residents and submitted to the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office a statement that it absolutely cannot accept NC Medi’s business plan for excessive capacity expansion and relocation of the incineration facility.

The county added that it cannot accept the plan under any circumstances, considering the suffering of Jeonggwan residents from the odor caused by medical waste incineration.

The facility is a designated waste incineration facility with a daily disposal capacity of over 10 tons, and since the authority for urban and county management planning lies with Gijang-gun, the county plans to actively respond according to the notification from the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office regarding the suitability of the business plan.
