Team Event Victory, Individual Event Winners in Lightweight and Historical Classes Produced

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] The Daegu University Ssireum team achieved excellent results at the ‘59th President’s National Ssireum Championship’ held from the 21st to the 22nd at the Mungyeong Indoor Gymnasium in Mungyeong-si, Gyeongbuk, emerging as a strong contender among university Ssireum teams nationwide.

Daegu University fielded 12 players in the university division team competition, consecutively defeating university players from across the country to claim their first team championship of the season.

In the university division individual competition, Gah Suho (1st year, Department of Sports Leisure), who competed in the lightweight category, and Park Junsung (3rd year, Department of Physical Education), who competed in the middleweight category, each won gold medals.

Notably, Park Junsung achieved a triple crown this season including this tournament, and Pyo Jinsu (3rd year, Department of Physical Education) placed third in the heavyweight category.

Choi Byungchan, head coach of the Daegu University Ssireum team, said, “I am indescribably happy to win the team championship for the first time in three years,” adding, “I am grateful to the players who trained hard without a single complaint and to the parents who supported us diligently from behind the scenes.”

The Daegu University Ssireum team has produced multiple champions in various weight classes in the university division individual competitions at national Ssireum tournaments held this year.
