[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Lotte Chemical announced on the 25th that it has obtained the international eco-friendly product certification (ISCC PLUS) for seven synthetic resin products.
The ISCC PLUS certification is a standard under the European Union (EU) renewable energy policy that internationally certifies the use of eco-friendly raw materials throughout the entire product manufacturing process. More than 130 petrochemical companies and raw material manufacturers worldwide are members.
The certified products include petrochemical raw materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate, butadiene, PET products, and high-performance synthetic resin products such as ABS and compound PC.
These products use ISCC-certified pyrolysis naphtha raw materials obtained through the chemical recycling of waste plastics.
With this certification, Lotte Chemical expects to provide its customers, who are expanding the production of eco-friendly low-carbon products, not only with carbon emission reduction effects but also with enhanced ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) competitiveness for their products.
Lotte Chemical plans to pilot the introduction of pyrolysis naphtha through chemical recycling within this year, produce and supply about 50,000 tons of eco-friendly synthetic resin products by 2025, and expand the pyrolysis business to increase the scale to about 150,000 tons by 2030.
A Lotte Chemical official said, "We systematically manage the environmental and social impacts and risks throughout the entire process from raw materials to sales, use, and disposal of products," adding, "By obtaining objectivity from a credible institution, it is significant that we can secure a competitive edge in the eco-friendly polymer market."
