Pukyong National University Cultivates Innovative Talent in 'System Semiconductors and Resource Development'... Selected for 'Ministry Collaborative Talent Development Project' Professor Baek Gang-jun, Principal Investigator of the 'Semiconductor Major Track Project' (left), and Professor Choi Yo-sun, Principal Investigator of the 'Raw Mineral Development Smart Mining Specialized University Project'.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Pukyong National University was recently selected in two fields, system semiconductors and resource development, for the Ministry of Education's '2022 Inter-Ministerial Collaborative Talent Nurturing Project.'

Pukyong National University was selected for the 'Semiconductor Major Track Project' in the system semiconductor field and the 'Raw Mineral Development Smart Mining Specialized University Project' in the resource development field, as a collaborative project between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

With the 'Semiconductor Major Track Project,' Pukyong National University will receive a budget of 900 million KRW over three years to operate the semiconductor major track, led by the Department of Nano Convergence Engineering.

The university plans to nurture a total of 120 specialized talents, 40 each year, in the fields of 'power semiconductors' and 'intelligent semiconductors.'

It aims to maximize educational outcomes by cooperating with the existing Smart Green Convergence Materials Talent Development Research Group. It will also collaborate with companies scheduled to move into the power semiconductor cluster being established in Gijang-gun, Busan, to cultivate field-customized semiconductor experts equipped with practical skills.

Through the 'Raw Mineral Development Smart Mining Specialized University Project Group,' the university will receive over 600 million KRW in project funds over two years and eight months to establish an intelligent information technology convergence smart mining education system specialized in raw mineral development and to train resource development technical personnel capable of flexibly responding to rapidly changing industry cycles.

To establish the system, it plans to operate a smart mining specialized major curriculum and extracurricular programs and build a system for sharing and spreading specialized education.

The Inter-Ministerial Collaborative Talent Nurturing Project is a project in which the Ministry of Education and seven other ministries select and support 143 universities nationwide to nurture talents in new and advanced industries, such as semiconductors and energy, leading national innovation growth.

This year alone, the project supports a total of 42 billion KRW, aiming to nurture about 4,300 innovative talents annually and a total of about 13,000 over three years.
