[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Retail tech company Market Kurly announced on the 25th that it will hold its first-ever online hackathon, ‘KURLY HACK FESTA 2022.’ A hackathon is a combination of hacking and marathon, where developers, planners, and designers form individuals or teams to analyze a specific theme, generate ideas, and propose services or business models.

The theme of this hackathon is ‘Challenges Kurly wants to solve in e-commerce.’ Participants can propose solutions to meaningful technical problems in the e-commerce ecosystem, including but not limited to ▲solving logistics human errors ▲price monitoring ▲appropriate product recommendations.

Anyone interested in IT in general, as well as e-commerce service planning and development, can apply. Teams can be formed from individuals up to a maximum of four members. Applications will be accepted on the website from the 25th of this month until the 15th of next month. Applicants must download and complete the application form and project plan from the site and submit them. Teams that pass the preliminary review of the project plans will participate in the finals, which will be held from the 19th to the 24th of next month, performing actual tasks based on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Twelve teams will be selected to advance to the final round through this process.

The final presentations will take place on the 31st of next month, where four teams will be selected as winners. Winning teams will receive a prize of 5 million KRW per team and be granted Market Kurly’s highest customer tier, ‘The Purple,’ for one month. Additionally, all 12 finalist teams will receive 100,000 KRW in Market Kurly credits and Kurly merchandise.

All participants in the final round will be granted the privilege of skipping the document screening, coding test, and job skill interview stages when applying for a position at Kurly, allowing them to proceed directly to the final interview. However, applicants must be able to join Kurly within the first quarter of 2023. Notably, applicants who belong to the final four winning teams and ultimately join Kurly will receive a remarkable congratulatory bonus of 10 million KRW per person.

Ryu Hyungkyu, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Market Kurly, said, “There are many interesting technical challenges worth tackling in the e-commerce sector, including logistics. We prepared this hackathon to create an opportunity to fully enjoy that excitement and interact with outstanding talents.” He added, “Through this hackathon, we hope more IT talents will take an interest in the e-commerce field and come up with great ideas on various topics such as products, recommendations, and logistics.”
