Invitation Event 'Remember you!' for Volunteers Who Joined the Expo on the 23rd
Environmental Protection Events Including 'Eco Sympathy Festival' and 'Carbon Zero Eco Plogging' Followed
Competition Programs Like 'Cheongsonyeon That's Street' and 'Sing Again Yeosu' Along with Various Side Events Prepared
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Yeosu, Jeonnam, a representative marine tourism city of South Korea, is heating up with the 10th anniversary commemorative event of the 2012 Yeosu World Expo.
The 10th anniversary commemorative event has been unfolding vibrantly from the opening ceremony on the 22nd until the 31st at the Yeosu World Expo site and throughout Yeosu city.
On the 23rd, events such as ‘Remember U!’ with volunteers, ‘Feast of Eco Sympathy’ pledging climate and environmental protection, and ‘Carbon Zero Eco Plogging’ were held.
‘Remember U!’, held on the main stage of the Expo site, was organized to invite volunteers from across the country who contributed to the successful hosting of the 2012 Yeosu World Expo to share the passionate emotions of that day once again.
The program included the entrance of volunteer groups, a special themed video recalling the Expo days, the reading of a resolution pledging the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo and the COP33, and performances.
Yeosu Mayor Jeong Ki-myeong expressed in his welcoming speech, “Standing before you, I feel the heat that once filled this Expo site in 2012 again, which moves my heart deeply,” and added, “The successful hosting of the global festival attended by 8.2 million people from 104 countries was possible because of you, the volunteers,” expressing his gratitude.
He continued, “Now, Yeosu aims to leap onto the world stage by successfully hosting the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo and attracting the 33rd United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties. I hope you will once again join forces so that this earnest dream can become a reality,” urging support.
At the highlight of the event, the congratulatory performances and talent shows allowed volunteers to freely showcase the talents they have honed over time.
On the morning of the 23rd, the ‘Feast of Eco Sympathy’ held at the Expo site saw participation from 212 people including Yeosu Deputy Mayor Park Hyun-sik, environmental groups from the eastern region of Jeonnam and western region of Gyeongnam, and general citizens.
After the reading of a resolution for climate and environmental protection by representatives of environmental groups, participants performed acts to raise awareness of the climate crisis.
In the afternoon, a ‘Carbon Zero Eco Plogging (plogging, an exercise combining jogging with picking up litter)’ event was held at Manseong-ri and Museulmok, Yeosu’s representative beaches.
Participants boarded buses to listen to environmental protection lectures, then moved to Manseong-ri and Museulmok to carry out marine environment cleanup activities.
In particular, events such as treasure hunts prepared by the Marine Environment Lifesaving Team were also conducted, leaving special memories for the participants.
On the third day of the event, the 24th, exciting competition programs such as ▲Youth Dance Street ▲Performing Arts Festa ▲Singer Again Yeosu were held.
Additionally, various events where audiences can directly participate and enjoy, including ▲Flying Water Show ▲Expo 10th Anniversary Photo and Poster Contest ▲Yeosu Sale Festa ▲Youth Marine Safety Camp ▲Little Carbon Children’s Art Festival ▲Eco Healing Busking ▲Yeonirang Sunirang Flea Market, will continue until the 31st.
