Gangneung City Competes with Taipei, Taiwan... Host City Selection in September in LA, USA
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-chul] The on-site inspection team for selecting the host city of the '2026 ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) World Congress,' jointly promoted by Gangneung City, Gangwon Province, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will visit Gangneung on the 25th.
According to Gangneung City, the on-site inspection team of three members, including Akio Yamamoto, Director of the ITS Asia-Pacific Secretariat, arrived in Korea on the 24th and listened to the city and the Ministry of Land's plans to host the congress in Gangneung. They toured the Olympic Park and other local areas before announcing the evaluation results in August.
The host city for the 2026 ITS World Congress will be decided at the host city selection meeting held in Los Angeles, USA, in September, based on the evaluation scores between Gangneung and Taipei, Taiwan, following this on-site inspection.
The city believes that hosting the ITS World Congress will bring significant regional economic benefits, including priority national funding support for building intelligent transportation system infrastructure, as well as attracting over 20,000 experts and 300,000 visitors from more than 90 countries, and is putting all efforts into securing the congress.
A city official stated, "We plan to do our best to successfully complete this first hurdle of the on-site inspection for the 2026 Gangneung ITS World Congress and to deliver good news at the host city selection meeting in Los Angeles this September."
