[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] As of 9 PM on the 22nd, over 60,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, a total of 65,972 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
This figure is 519 fewer than the same time the previous day, maintaining the 60,000 range for the third consecutive day. It is more than three times higher compared to 19,400 cases reported two weeks ago on the 8th.
Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new cases announced on the 23rd is expected to be around 70,000.
As of 9 PM on the day, 35,485 new cases (53.8%) were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area, and 30,487 cases (46.2%) in non-metropolitan areas.
By region, the numbers are as follows: Gyeonggi 18,292, Seoul 14,830, Gyeongnam 3,779, Incheon 3,722, Gyeongbuk 2,942, Chungnam 2,674, Daegu 2,363, Jeonbuk 2,177, Chungbuk 2,140, Gangwon 2,030, Daejeon 1,976, Ulsan 1,865, Busan 1,768, Jeonnam 1,748, Gwangju 1,630, Jeju 1,543, and Sejong 493.
