Kim Ikang, Mayor of Gwangju Seo-gu, Rolls Up Sleeves to Support Hwajeong I-Park Prospective Residents

Kim Ikang, Mayor of Gwangju Seo-gu, Rolls Up Sleeves to Support Hwajeong I-Park Prospective Residents

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has actively stepped forward to support the prospective residents of Hwajeong I-Park, where a collapse accident occurred last January.

According to Seo-gu on the 22nd, Mayor Kim visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Financial Services Commission on the same day to meet with Minister Won Heeryong of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Director Kwon Daeyoung of the Financial Policy Bureau, requesting government-level cooperation.

The prospective residents of Hwajeong I-Park were originally scheduled to move in by the end of November, but due to the collapse accident, it is expected to take about 70 more months for the apartment demolition and reconstruction.

Therefore, there is a need for temporary alternative housing.

However, since the pre-sale rights are considered as one housing unit, it is difficult to extend the lease period for existing tenants among the prospective residents living in rental housing, and loans are also difficult due to DSR (Debt Service Ratio) regulations, making government-level support urgently needed.

Mayor Kim explained the difficulties faced by the prospective residents of Hwajeong I-Park in Gwangju, who are suffering from housing insecurity, and conveyed their requests.

Minister Won Heeryong said, “As I personally listened to the situation of the prospective residents on-site last April as a nominee for the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, I will positively consider the issue from the residents’ perspective to ensure that the housing problem is resolved promptly.”
