[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Simmons announced on the 23rd that the number of parents seeking Simmons beds due to concerns about their children's lack of sleep is increasing. According to Simmons, sales of major products tracked through its subscription economy membership service ‘Simmons Pay’ recorded a half-year record high with payment amounts reaching 40 billion KRW in the first half of last year.
Simmons bed’s ‘Giselle’ has shown rapid growth, with first-half sales doubling compared to the same period last year. Giselle is a popular model priced in the 2 million KRW range and is well known as a standard specification for luxury hotel beds. Other products in the 2 million KRW range such as ‘Jasmine’, and best sellers in the 1 million KRW range like ‘Louis’ and ‘Marconi’ are also seeing fast sales growth. Jasmine was sold out in six live broadcasts last month, including Hyundai Home Shopping, SSG.com, and Naver Live.
Simmons cited overwhelming quality as the biggest reason their products captivate parents. Simmons’ DNA, the pocket spring, responds sensitively to minute weight changes of 0.3 kg or small movements of 0.0001 m/s², forming a flexible surface contour and boasting excellent stability. It quickly adapts to the physical changes of children growing daily in height, weight, and curvature, providing high-quality sleep.
Simmons beds have obtained national official eco-friendly certification as well as ‘Radon and Thoron Safety Product Certification’ from the Korea Standards Association for 36 types of general market mattresses. They have also launched flame-retardant mattresses that meet international standard specifications and domestic standard test methods, acquiring related patents. The payment system using Simmons Pay is also highlighted as an advantage. Simmons Pay is a long-term interest-free installment program combining premium products with the subscription economy.
Quoting the ‘2022 Youth Statistics’ released by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in May, Simmons explained, "Last year, the average sleep time of high school students in Korea was 5.8 hours, significantly lower than the overall youth average of 7.2 hours," adding, "As parents’ interest in quality sleep, which affects their children’s growth and learning efficiency, grows, demand for gifting proper beds is also increasing."
