Namhan-gwon Ulleung County Governor attended the kickoff report meeting for the research project on the specialization plan of wild vegetable industry in Ulleung County.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kyungho Ahn] Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, held a kickoff meeting for the research project on the specialization plan for mountain vegetable industry in Ulleung-gun on the 19th.
Ulleung-gun plans to promptly respond to the unfavorable agricultural conditions as an island region and the decline in competitiveness caused by the expansion of inland cultivation of Ulleungdo's main mountain vegetables. The meeting was held to proactively respond to new opportunities such as the launch of large passenger ships and the opening of Ulleung Airport, aiming to transform Ulleung agriculture into a sixth industry and lay the foundation for co-growth supporting the local tourism industry.
At the kickoff meeting, Professor Deungyong Heo from the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Kyungpook National University, who presented the report, suggested the direction of the project focusing on the distribution of Ulleung-type smart farms, creation of agricultural income and settlement of young farmers, activation of eco-friendly agriculture and processing industry, and promotion of the sixth industry and slow food.
Nam Hangwon, the mayor of Ulleung-gun, said, “I hope the project reflects directions that allow Ulleung agricultural products to actively respond to various changes and utilize resources such as slow food. I expect effective results, including fostering young farmers to ensure sustainable Ulleung agriculture.”
