Beer Tastes Like Vanilla

The
‘Blangerie Beurre’ is a brand by singer Park Yong-in, a member of the vocal group Urban Zakapa. This is not his first venture into the food and beverage industry. Known as an emotional vocalist and a gourmet, he has already introduced the handmade burger restaurant ‘Nuts Burger’ in Seongsu-dong, the wine bar ‘So Simple’ where you can enjoy pasta and wine, and the hip Makgeolli bistro ‘Jjan Jjan’. Launched in March this year, Blangerie Beurre is a butter specialty store selling various flavored butters and baked goods. Currently, it is running pop-up stores at The Hyundai Seoul and Hyundai Department Store in Pangyo. At the pop-up stores, they sell financiers, butter bars, and Butterbeer.
Blangerie Beurre offers four types of Butterbeer: AAA+, BBB+, CCC+, and DDD+. They are made by adding vanilla, caramel, almond, and hazelnut flavors to a butter base. The price is 6,500 KRW per can. As expected from a beer popular on Instagram, when visiting the store, all beers except BBB+ were completely sold out. BBB+, which adds caramel flavor to the butter base, is a beer that catches the eye with its warm brick color, simple text, and matte texture?making it very Instagrammable. Its alcohol content is 5.2%.
True to its caramel flavor, as soon as you open the can, a sweet caramel aroma wafts out. It is similar to the scent of caramel popcorn at the movie theater, and it is so excellent that I recommend savoring the aroma fully before drinking. The color is lighter compared to regular beer.
Is this... really beer? It feels more like a beverage than alcohol. It has a strong vanilla custard cream flavor that you might only expect from desserts like donuts. It tastes like melted custard cream mixed with slightly bitter beer, with a rich vanilla aroma. The bitterness of the beer lingers briefly before fading, leaving a sweet aftertaste that lasts a long time. The carbonation is mild, and the texture is very smooth. It is light and refreshing but not a crisp style. The strong vanilla cream flavor may be polarizing.
Although it is definitely an alcoholic beer, Blangerie Beurre’s BBB+ felt like a drink with caramel aroma and custard cream flavor. It is relatively expensive for a canned beer, but if you like sweet flavors and are curious about the taste of Butterbeer, it is worth trying at least once.
