[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education is taking steps to create a healthy summer vacation by providing quarantine guidelines before the vacation, as the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in schools of all levels has rapidly increased due to the recent spread of a new variant virus.
According to the analysis by the COVID-19 Situation Control Team of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, the occurrence of COVID-19 among students and staff in the Gyeongbuk region had been on a decline but shifted to an upward trend starting from the fourth week of June. Regarding the currently prevalent BA.5 variant, the possibility of reinfection is high, so even those previously confirmed or vaccinated cannot be complacent, and the number of confirmed cases is expected to increase more rapidly.
Accordingly, basic quarantine rules such as wearing masks indoors are being communicated to each household through home correspondence letters to guide students to remain vigilant about COVID-19 during the vacation. Schools have also been instructed to prepare quarantine supplies and use self-diagnosis systems to ensure no disruption in school quarantine measures when the second semester begins.
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik said, “Many students are looking forward to the vacation as quarantine measures have been eased, but I hope everyone spends a safe summer vacation by strictly adhering to quarantine rules.”
