JSCO Holdings Signs MOU with Secondary Battery Company... "Synergy with Willings in Related Business Expansion"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] KOSDAQ-listed company J-SCO Holdings is set to fully launch a new business related to secondary batteries. On the 20th, J-SCO Holdings announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with supercapacitor specialist company "Whidderco" for the production and research and development of secondary battery products.

Whidderco is a company that produces, manufactures, and sells secondary battery (supercapacitor) packs and cells for drones, e-mobility products, and more. Through this MOU with Whidderco, J-SCO Holdings plans to make a full-scale entry into the secondary battery sector.

Through this agreement, the two companies plan to jointly carry out ▲production of secondary batteries and manufacturing and sales of electric bicycles and their components ▲research and development of related products ▲establishment of manufacturing facilities necessary for the business and marketing activities.

Supercapacitors (electric double-layer capacitors) are a type of secondary battery that has recently attracted attention as a future energy storage device and are considered a potential alternative to lithium-ion batteries, which can cause environmental pollution. Compared to lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors allow for high-speed charging and have a relatively longer lifespan, raising expectations as a next-generation eco-friendly energy storage device.

According to the company, supercapacitors can also be used as devices to store energy generated from solar and wind power, including batteries for electric vehicles, depending on future technological advancements. This means there is potential synergy with Willings, a company recently acquired by J-SCO Holdings.

A J-SCO Holdings representative said, “We signed this MOU to proceed with a full-scale secondary battery business together with Whidderco. Starting from this MOU, we will continue close collaboration to jointly establish production and manufacturing facilities necessary for future business, and J-SCO Holdings plans to promote production of related products.”

He added, “By combining the small battery pack technology of Willings, a solar power specialist company recently acquired, with Whidderco’s core supercapacitor technology, we plan to actively create synergy in the direction of small secondary battery-related businesses that can be used in drones, small bikes, and more.”
