[Seoul District News] Seocho-gu Utilizes Automatic Liquid Spraying Device Installed Near Yeomgok IC on Heolleung-ro for Summer Cooling by Spraying Cleaning Water, Assists Winter Snow Removal, Reduces Temperature and Fine Dust in Summer... Gangbuk-gu Supports Up to 400,000 KRW Monthly for 3 Years for Management Costs of Odor Reduction Facilities in General Businesses
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is conducting a pilot operation by installing a ‘Cooling Road Automatic Liquid Spraying Device’ that integrates a cooling road function into the automatic liquid spraying device used for winter snow removal as part of the summer heatwave countermeasures.
The pilot installation area is an 800m section around Yeomgok IC on Heolleung-ro, Seocho-gu. From July to August this year, spraying will be done twice a day (11 a.m. and 1 p.m. / excluding weekends) for 5 minutes each time. The spraying device installed in the central green median of the road sprays washing water that serves as a cooling agent in summer and sprays deicing solution for snow removal in winter.
This system utilizes the automatic liquid spraying device installed last year around Yeomgok IC on Heolleung-ro. The salinity sensor installed inside the equipment prevents the spraying of deicing solution in summer and prevents the spraying of washing water in winter, thereby preventing vehicle accidents that could occur due to misinterpretation of the spraying function.
The district expects that this pilot operation will prepare for smooth snow removal in winter and provide a temperature reduction effect of 7 to 9°C and fine dust reduction effect in summer, thereby upgrading the functionality of the road. Additionally, by using the existing winter equipment in summer as well, equipment efficiency can be improved, which is expected to result in budget savings.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, stated, “While piloting the Cooling Road Automatic Liquid Spraying Device, we will promote various projects to enhance the efficiency of roads in the region.”
◆Seocho-gu Personnel
Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is recruiting candidates for the ‘Odor Reduction Facility Maintenance Support’ program.
The support targets general businesses that require odor reduction facilities due to the generation of living odors, such as direct-fire grilled restaurants and coffee roasting shops. However, businesses that already operate odor reduction facilities or have received support for living odor reduction facility costs from Seoul City are excluded.
Selected businesses will receive up to 400,000 KRW per month for maintenance costs of odor reduction facilities for three years. Additionally, for businesses without odor reduction facilities, the facilities are supported through a rental method to minimize the economic burden on the business.
Businesses wishing to apply should submit the application form, a copy of the business license, business registration certificate, maintenance agreement, and other required documents to the Environmental Division of Gangbuk-gu.
Required documents and other detailed information can be found on the Gangbuk-gu website.
Applicants will be finally selected through a review by the Seoul City review committee.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “We ask for active participation from businesses to reduce living odors occurring near residential areas,” and added, “Gangbuk-gu will strive to become a clean city without odors.”
