[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Data agriculture startup Greenlabs announced on the 19th that it has joined the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB). Greenlabs is the first company from Asia, as well as from Korea, to join GRSB.
The Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB) is a global multilateral forum developed to improve the sustainability of the global beef value chain. It was established to pursue an environmentally sound, socially responsible, and economically viable future for beef production and distribution. It can be seen as an organization established to discuss 'ESG' (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in the beef sector. The forum has set measurement standards for how much carbon emissions beef produces and has set its first goal to reduce global beef-related carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.
The forum includes more than 500 stakeholders from 24 countries, including various research institutions, companies, and associations. Representative global companies participating in the forum include Walmart, Cargill, and McDonald's. The members account for two-thirds of the global beef trade volume.
With this membership, Greenlabs has joined the ranks of global companies as a producer and distributor of sustainable beef. The business of distributing 'low-methane feed' that reduces methane gas emissions from livestock to farms is also expected to gain momentum. Through close cooperation and communication with member companies and associations, Greenlabs plans to present more advanced carbon reduction solutions.
As the only GRSB member company in Asia, Greenlabs plans to take the lead in establishing the forum in Asia as well as Korea and set standards for sustainable 'ESG beef' in the domestic and international livestock markets. Furthermore, it is determined to continue its path as a company leading ESG management by fulfilling environmental and social responsibilities in the livestock market.
Shin Sanghoon, CEO of Greenlabs, said, "A historic first step has begun as a leader in the introduction and expansion of sustainable beef domestically and internationally," adding, "Through comprehensive ESG beef supply, we will lead carbon neutrality in the domestic and global livestock sectors and become a globally recognized company as an icon practicing a carbon reduction culture."
Ruaraidh Petre, Executive Director of GRSB, emphasized, "With Greenlabs joining, GRSB's international influence has grown even stronger," and added, "We will spare no support for Greenlabs' progress, which will develop further using the Korean and Asian markets as a foothold."
