[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Local media reported on the 18th that over 2,000 tourists have been stranded locally for the sixth day as a famous tourist destination in China was locked down due to the spread of COVID-19.
According to reports, since the first infection case was confirmed on the 12th in Beihai City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 531 people have been infected with COVID-19 within five days.
As Beihai City imposed a full lockdown, more than 2,000 people have been unable to return home and remain stranded locally for six days.
On the 17th, Beihai City allowed tourists who stayed only in low-risk areas and had no contact with infected individuals to return home if they tested negative on a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test within 48 hours.
However, those who visited medium- or high-risk areas, had contact with infected individuals, or whose health code on the quarantine mobile phone app was yellow or red will be controlled and managed in quarantine facilities until they meet the release requirements.
Meanwhile, Beihai City, a southern coastal city in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is a representative resort city in China. Last year, it attracted 51 million visitors and generated tourism revenue of 67.6 billion yuan (approximately 13.2 trillion won).
