[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 18th that, according to the heatwave standards of the 'Basic Welfare Guidelines' established for the first time among local governments nationwide on the 15th, it provided fans and summer blankets to low-income vulnerable groups in the district so they can stay healthy and cool during the summer.
This project, jointly promoted by Dong-gu and the Dong-gu Community Security Council, actively identified neighbors in need of care who were in welfare blind spots by neighborhood since June, selecting a total of 585 households, and provided 195 fans and 390 summer blankets respectively.
Dong-gu visited each household by neighborhood to deliver summer supplies, while also checking the health status of vulnerable groups and conducting surveys on living conditions such as their residence environment.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “I am grateful to each neighborhood community security council for always carefully looking after our neighbors and being a great support to those in need of care,” adding, “As this year’s heatwave is expected to last longer than usual, we will build a dense welfare safety net with practical and systematic customized policies so that residents can spend the summer healthily.”
