[Special Stock] Medipost's Stem Cell Therapy Enters US Market 'Green Light'... Phase 3 Clinical Trial Proves 5-Year Patient Effectiveness

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Medipost is showing strong performance. Expectations for the overseas market entry of the knee osteoarthritis treatment ‘Cartistem’ appear to be influencing the stock price.

Medipost announced that the paper tracking the 48-week and 5-year long-term efficacy after surgery of patients in the Cartistem Phase 3 clinical trial was selected as the best paper of 2021 by the American Journal of Sports Orthopaedic Medicine (OJSM). This is the first time for a Korean paper. OJSM is the SCI-level official journal of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.

The study involved 89 patients who participated in the Phase 3 clinical trial and included results from 48 weeks and 5 years of long-term follow-up after administration. The 5-year long-term follow-up results showed that the Cartistem test group improved and maintained knee pain and stiffness, physical function improvements over time (WOMAC), subjective pain relief (100mm VAS), and joint function improvement (IKDC) compared to the microfracture control group, which are efficacy evaluation indicators.

Long-term cartilage regeneration effects were also proven to be sustained. Notably, significant results were confirmed in patients with severe cartilage defects and elderly patients aged 60 and above.

A Medipost official stated, "Cartistem has been recognized overseas as a definite treatment option for severe and elderly knee osteoarthritis patients by improving knee function and pain long-term through the cartilage regeneration effect on damaged cartilage." He added, "We will accelerate overseas clinical trials based on this reference and make every effort to ensure Cartistem becomes a global blockbuster."

Medipost plans to accelerate its entry into the global market by advancing the U.S. Phase 3 trial of Cartistem and the Phase 2 trial of the injectable osteoarthritis treatment SMUP-IA-01.
