[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] The police are investigating whether a man in his 20s, who was urgently arrested in connection with the death of a female university student on the Inha University campus, attempted to destroy evidence.

On the 16th, the Michuhol Police Station in Incheon announced that they had urgently arrested A, a first-year male student at Inha University, on charges of rape and murder, and plan to apply for an arrest warrant.

A is suspected of sexually assaulting B, a woman in her 20s known to him, in a building on the Inha University campus in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, in the early hours of the previous day, and causing her death by pushing her to fall. The police initially questioned A as a witness based on CCTV footage around the crime scene, but upon determining there was probable cause, they changed his status to a suspect and urgently arrested him.

A was with B until shortly before her death. A’s mobile phone was also found inside the building where the crime took place.

According to the police, B’s top was found at the fall site. However, her pants and underwear, which are presumed to have been worn by B, were found elsewhere on campus. The police said they plan to investigate the possibility that A attempted to destroy evidence.

It has been reported that A admitted to a significant portion of the charges during the police investigation. The police are investigating the specific circumstances and motive of the crime. They have also requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death and ordered a detailed examination of personal belongings presumed to belong to the victim. The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A later that afternoon.
