Sharing Samgyetang with Vulnerable Groups for Chobok Season

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The Seongbuk District Council of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Society (President Seonnyeo Park) shared Samgyetang with vulnerable groups to mark the beginning of the hottest season.

On the 14th, the Korean Red Cross Northern Volunteer Center Seongbuk Sharing Place (20 Samyang-ro, Seongbuk-gu) was filled with members preparing to cook, package, and deliver Samgyetang from early morning. While chicken and medicinal herbs were simmering in a large pot, hands were busy packaging pre-made kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi).

The Samgyetang prepared by the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Society Seongbuk District Council was delivered to a total of 250 low-income households, including those paired with Hope Windmill and elderly living alone throughout Seongbuk-gu.

In addition, 90 summer blankets and 180 cooling scarves sponsored by local companies were also delivered to support a cool summer for vulnerable groups.

President Seonnyeo Park of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Society Seongbuk District Council said, “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not easy to gather many people to cook and share food through volunteer activities, so I am very pleased that members could come together to prepare and share nourishing food for neighbors in need.”

Seungro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, who participated in the Samgyetang volunteer activity that day, said, “In these difficult times, having members like the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Society Seongbuk District Council who continuously care for marginalized neighbors gives me confidence that the vision of the 8th local government term, a happier Seongbuk together, will be realized even faster.”
