[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has identified 180 business sites that emit environmental pollutants.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Metropolitan Environmental Management Office announced on the 14th that it detected 180 violations of laws at 180 business sites that discharged wastewater containing environmental pollutants exceeding the standard or secretly operated discharge facilities without reporting.
This inspection was conducted from March to June on 1,467 pollutant-emitting business sites within the province.
Follow-up measures such as prosecution, suspension of operations, improvement orders, and warnings are being carried out for the detected business sites.
The violations include ▲63 cases of exceeding discharge allowable limits ▲41 cases of unauthorized changes to discharge or prevention facilities ▲28 cases of neglecting damaged prevention facilities ▲11 cases of operating unlicensed discharge facilities ▲ and 37 other cases.
A printed circuit board manufacturer in Ansan City, Company A, was prosecuted for discharging wastewater containing copper at 13.6 mg/L, which is 4.5 times the standard (3.0 mg/L), into public waters.
A plating company in Ansan City, Company B, was caught operating air emission facilities without prior notification and was ordered to cease use and prosecuted.
The province plans to inspect about 2,000 business sites and unlicensed facilities in the second half of the year.
