[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The number of new COVID-19 cases has reached the high 30,000s, with a clear 'doubling' phenomenon where cases double every week.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 12th, as of midnight, the number of new COVID-19 cases was 39,196, bringing the total cumulative cases to 18,641,278.
Although this is a slight decrease from the previous day (40,266), the number of cases on Thursdays has nearly doubled from 9,591 on the 30th of last month to 18,505 on the 7th of this month, and then increased again by 2.12 times on this day. Among the new cases, 338 were imported cases, marking the second consecutive day with over 300 imported cases.
The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized increased by 2 from the previous day to 69. Of the 1,426 intensive care unit beds, 157 are in use, resulting in an occupancy rate of 11.0%. The occupancy rates for semi-critical beds and moderate beds are 21.7% and 16.6%, respectively.
The number of COVID-19 related deaths was 16, an increase of 12 from the previous day. The cumulative death toll to date is 24,696, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.13%.
