Exploring the Urban Structure of Silla Wanggyeong


The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage's National Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute and the Korean Ancient History Society will hold an academic conference on the 14th and 15th at the Gyeongju Hilton Hotel under the theme "The Urban Structure of the Silla Royal Capital and Wolseong." The conference will comprehensively review the achievements of research on Silla royal capital literature and the latest archaeological survey results to examine the urban structure of the royal capital. Seven experts will participate in the keynote presentations. Jang Gi-myeong, a research curator at the National Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute, will discuss debates and new approaches regarding the construction and expansion of the Silla palace. Jeong In-tae, a research curator at the same institute, will present on the site review of the Daereungwon tumulus cluster, and Kim Dong-ha, also a research curator there, will present on the partitioning and characteristics of the outer corridor space of Hwangnyongsa Temple. Choi Jae-young, director of the Hallim University Museum, will sketch changes in the distribution of residences and the Daemyeong Palace of the Tang Dynasty's late Chang'an city, Han Young-hwa, assistant professor in the Department of History at Sungkyunkwan University, will discuss the administrative organization and operation related to the Silla royal capital, and Yang Jeong-seok, professor in the Department of History Education at Suwon University, will talk about changes in the layout structure and landscape of the Silla palaces. In the following discussion, various opinions will be exchanged under the theme "New Directions in Research on the Silla Royal Capital and Wolseong."
