Nowon-gu Mayor Seungrok Oh Attends Completion Ceremony of Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project near Gwangwoon University Station on 12th at 11 AM
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 12th at 2 PM, Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, attended the 12th anniversary opening ceremony of Dongmun Disabled Welfare Center and the 2022 Donghaeng Festival held at Saehim Art Hall (11 Imun-ro 1-gil, Dongdaemun-gu), where he presented awards and delivered words of encouragement.
At the event, Mayor Lee said, “I sincerely congratulate the 12th anniversary of the opening of Dongmun Disabled Welfare Center,” adding, “I understand how difficult it is to improve the rights of people with disabilities and create a world without discrimination. We will review and collect your opinions and promote welfare projects for the disabled until Dongdaemun-gu becomes a place where people with disabilities are no longer discriminated against because of their disabilities.”
On the 12th at 11 AM, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the completion ceremony of the pedestrian environment improvement project around Gwangwoon University Station.
The project area around Gwangwoon University Station is a representative densely populated area in Wolgye-dong, used by at least 64,000 people daily, but due to narrow sidewalks and disconnected pedestrian paths, the need for environmental improvement has been raised.
The district invested a total project cost of 1.105 billion KRW and conducted construction from February last year to July this year, including replacing old sidewalks, expanding sidewalk width (from 0.8m to 2m), creating new sidewalks, and installing no-parking lines around Gwangwoon University Station.
This completion ceremony was held to express gratitude to residents who endured inconveniences caused by the construction and to introduce the renewed Gwangwoon University Station area with a safe and convenient pedestrian environment.
The event was attended by Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, district council members, key guests, and residents of Wolgye-dong, and proceeded with an opening, project report, mayor’s remarks, congratulatory speeches by key guests, and a tour of the project area.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “Over the past three years, we have carried out major pedestrian environment improvement projects in seven locations to create a safe walking environment,” adding, “We will continue to implement various projects to become a city that is pleasant to walk in.”
