[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong paid his respects to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who died during a House of Councillors election campaign on the afternoon of the 12th.

According to the industry, Vice Chairman Lee visited the Public Affairs and Cultural Center of the Embassy of Japan in Seoul's Jongno-gu, where a domestic memorial altar for former Prime Minister Abe was set up, to pay his respects that afternoon. Having sent a condolence wreath, he stayed briefly and left without saying much.

According to the industry, besides Vice Chairman Lee, Choi Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sohn Kyung-shik, Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation, and Koo Ja-yeol, Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, also visited the memorial altar. It was reported that Huh Chang-soo, Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, is also scheduled to visit. Shin Dong-bin, Chairman of Lotte Group, is known to be traveling directly to Japan to console former Prime Minister Abe's family and others.

Former Prime Minister Abe was shot and collapsed while campaigning in Nara City, Nara Prefecture, Japan, on the 8th. He was then transported to a hospital for treatment but passed away. A family funeral will be held in Japan on that day. Afterwards, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will serve as the funeral committee chairman, and the Japanese government and the Liberal Democratic Party will jointly hold a funeral ceremony.
