Gwangju Basic Local Government Head Accused of 'Quasi-Rape'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A complaint has been filed alleging past sexual assault by a basic local government head in Gwangju Metropolitan City, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

According to the Gwangju Police Agency on the 12th, a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, recently filed a complaint with the police stating that she was sexually assaulted multiple times in the past by Mr. B, a current basic local government head in the Gwangju area.

The police, having received the complaint, are investigating Mr. B on charges of quasi-rape.

The complaint alleges that while working in the election campaign camp for a metropolitan government head candidate in 2018, Ms. A was sexually assaulted multiple times by the current basic local government head, who was then the camp leader. It is not confirmed whether any related evidence was submitted along with the complaint.

Initially, the complaint was filed with the Western Police Station but was transferred to the Gwangju Police Agency. The police plan to summon Mr. B soon to ascertain the exact circumstances of the case.

In response, Mr. B's side denied the allegations, stating, "They are completely unfounded, and we are considering legal action."

The police stated, "We cannot disclose any details regarding the suspect's facts."
