Jinju City and KBO Sign MOU for 'Namhaean Belt' Baseball Sports Park Bird's-eye View

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province and the KBO have joined hands to create the baseball infrastructure "Namhaean Belt."

Mayor Cho Gyu-il and Commissioner Hur Koo-yeon signed the first MOU for the KBO's "Namhaean Belt" on the 11th to support winter training camps and tournament hosting for professional and amateur baseball teams.

The city plans to closely collaborate with the KBO to establish the best baseball facilities, including Korea's first air dome (indoor baseball practice facility, weight training room, etc.), a stadium capable of hosting tournaments, lighting, and fence facilities, to serve as a successful model for the baseball infrastructure "Namhaean Belt" planned by the KBO.

The city will invest approximately 43 billion KRW to build the "Jinju Baseball Sports Complex" in the Gwanji-ri area of Myeongseok-myeon, aiming for completion by December 2025.

The Jinju Baseball Sports Complex will be built on about 85,000㎡ of land and will include two official regulation baseball fields, one youth baseball field, and air domes for indoor practice and strength training.

Located about 10 minutes from downtown Jinju, the complex will have excellent accessibility in terms of transportation and accommodation. It is an ambitious city project designed to allow visitors to enjoy the city's spring and autumn festivals, such as the Nongae Festival and the Lantern Festival, alongside sports.

The city expects that by creating training infrastructure in Jinju, which has optimal conditions such as mild winter temperatures, professional and amateur players will be able to conduct winter training camps, attracting many baseball teams and officials, thereby greatly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.

Commissioner Hur said, "There are high expectations for the excellent facilities of the Jinju Baseball Sports Complex," and expressed gratitude to Mayor Cho Gyu-il and the citizens of Jinju for their efforts in advancing Korean baseball.

Mayor Cho said, "I will strive to revitalize the local economy through the successful promotion of the Namhaean Belt project proposed during my meeting with Commissioner Hur Koo-yeon on April 3," adding, "I will do my best to create the Jinju Baseball Sports Complex that can be used by professional and amateur players, as well as all citizens of Jinju."
