[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] In Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, sharing activities involving Bokdallim, a health food, are actively taking place ahead of Chobok (the first of the three hottest days in summer).
According to Nam-gu on the 12th, a Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) sharing ceremony was held that morning at the Wolsan 4-dong Administrative Welfare Center to help overcome the heat.
The event originated from an anonymous donor who recently donated 300 Samgyetang chickens worth about 2 million won.
The Wolsan 4-dong Administrative Welfare Center delivered the Samgyetang chickens to eight senior centers, five local children’s centers, one group home, one comprehensive welfare center for the disabled and senior welfare facility, and low-income families.
In Yangnim-dong, a warm Bokdallim event is being organized by the Autonomous Crime Prevention Unit.
Namdo Food Co., Ltd. and the nonprofit organization Jabisinhaenghoe are sponsoring 500 Samgyetang chickens and rice respectively for seniors and low-income residents, preparing a Samgyetang sharing event in front of Yangnim Church on the 14th.
Also, Mr. Lee Ki-ju, who lives in Sajik-dong, plans to visit the Sagu Senior Center on the 13th and take care of the health of the seniors there by personally cooking chicken porridge at home.
The local Community Security Council has also rolled up its sleeves to help seniors and vulnerable residents have a healthy summer.
First, in Bangnim 2-dong on the 12th, a Samgyetang sharing event was held inviting about 200 seniors using St. Joseph’s Love Restaurant and 10 senior centers to celebrate Chobok.
Along with this, various sharing events will be held in many areas including Juwol 2-dong, Hyodeok-dong, Daechon-dong, and Wolsan 5-dong between the 13th and 17th, and the Community Security Councils of Bongseon 2-dong and Sajik-dong will prepare and share health packages including Samgyetang and food on the 26th.
In addition, some local Community Security Councils will prepare summer blankets and fans besides health foods to support vulnerable residents such as seniors who are susceptible to the heat to overcome the hot weather.
A Nam-gu official said, “Sharing activities to beat the heat are active in every neighborhood, filling the district with warmth,” and added, “We will create a warm community that shares a happy life with neighbors.”
