Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that it held the first major business briefing session of the 8th term on the 8th.

The briefing session was presided over by Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu, attended by heads of departments and divisions, team leaders, and officers in charge, and was conducted in the form of reports on major pending tasks and campaign promises of the 8th term by each department.

On this day, Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “We will carefully review whether there have been any wasteful factors in projects or policies where the district budget has been spent so far, and the budget saved through this will be returned solely to projects and policies for the residents,” adding, “Please strive to realize a transparent public service society based on fairness and principles and an administration of service dedicated only to the residents.”

In particular, as Mapo-gu in the 8th term is focusing on becoming a tourist city full of food, sights, and entertainment, and culture, the tourism and job bureau’s briefing on the 8th discussed the creation of the Nanji Complex Cultural Tourism Complex and the operation of the Han River ‘Mapo Circular Train Bus.’

Starting from this day, the mayor visits each neighborhood to encourage staff and understand major local issues, listening to residents’ opinions and expectations for the 8th term. Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced on the 8th that it has resumed the ‘Love Oriental Medicine Volunteer Service’ for medically vulnerable residents after two years.

The Love Oriental Medicine Volunteer Service, conducted in cooperation with Gachon University, provides free oriental medical treatments such as acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping therapy to low-income residents who cannot receive timely treatment due to hospital costs.

This year, about 30 students from Gachon University College of Oriental Medicine are participating, and treatments are conducted every Friday until August 12 in the small conference room on the 2nd floor of Jungnang-gu Office. Six treatment sessions will be provided for about 100 residents in need of oriental medical care among the medically vulnerable residents.

Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “The Love Oriental Medicine treatment has been a volunteer activity continuing for 20 years since 2003, and the satisfaction of over 20,000 residents who have received treatment so far is very high,” adding, “We will continue to discover and promote various projects to improve residents’ health.”

Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) is producing and distributing heatwave prevention kits for residents vulnerable to heat as part of various heatwave countermeasures.

On the 8th, about 50 people including employees and members of the Jung-gu Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps gathered at the district office auditorium to assemble 1,300 heatwave prevention kits. The kits contain nine items: sun umbrellas, sports towels, KF94 masks, cooling patches, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, heatwave response leaflets, multipurpose bags, and hand sanitizers.

Mayor Kim Gil-seong also participated in the assembly, drawing attention. He packed the heatwave prevention and COVID-19 prevention items with care, wishing for a healthy and safe summer for the heat-vulnerable groups.(photo)

The public officials in charge of heat-vulnerable groups will deliver the assembled heatwave prevention kits directly to the recipients while checking their residence and health status.

In addition, the district is operating detailed heatwave countermeasures for the summer. This year, the management system for heat-vulnerable groups has been improved for more efficient and customized care. Based on health status and living environment, vulnerable groups are divided into priority management groups and general management groups. The priority management group is further subdivided into neighborhood interest residents (Group 1) and intensive management group (Group 2), while the general management group is subdivided into general care (Group 3) and elderly care (Group 4). Furthermore, a 1:1 matching system between vulnerable groups and district and neighborhood staff is in place, with frequent check-ins and visits to provide tangible protection activities.

Measures include ▲Umbrella rental stations ▲Heatwave shelters ▲Provision of bottled water at heatwave shelters ▲Support for cooling equipment and delivery of donated goods by neighborhood ▲Enhanced road watering operations ▲Expansion of heatwave reduction facilities ▲Visiting heatwave safety education, and more, continuing until September 30 according to heatwave warning situations.

The umbrella rental stations have been operating since last month and are set up at 16 locations including the district office civil service center, neighborhood community centers, and local management offices. Umbrellas can be rented by any Jung-gu resident and must be returned within a week after use.

For the health and safety protection of the elderly, 92 indoor and outdoor heatwave shelters are operated in the district. When heatwave warnings are issued, designated outdoor shelters provide a total of 1,000 bottles of ice water daily.

To address heatwave blind spots, 143 air conditioners and 150 fans have been delivered to basic livelihood security recipients and others, and 400 households including them receive 50,000 KRW per household for two months of electricity bills.

Considering the urban characteristics of low greenery and dense buildings, road watering operations to prevent the heat island effect are ongoing. Since June, watering trucks have been operating on 22 major arterial roads, side streets, and alleys, with up to 12 trucks working simultaneously.

Additionally, heatwave reduction facilities such as 15 shade tents and 8 cooling/heating chairs have been expanded. Education on heatwave response and emergency treatment for heat-related illnesses is provided to the elderly at 15 senior centers.

Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, “There are still people around who endure the hot summer without even a fan,” adding, “We will thoroughly prepare to minimize damage from disasters such as heatwaves and monsoons so that all residents can have a healthy and safe summer.”
