Jungnang-gu Selected Most in Seoul for Supporting the Spread of Resident Life Innovation Cases

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi·photo) achieved the remarkable feat of having a total of four projects selected in the 2022 Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Resident Life Innovation Case Expansion Support Project competition, the highest number among Seoul’s autonomous districts.

The Resident Life Innovation Case Expansion Support Project is a program that carefully selects regional innovation cases verified through various evaluations and excellent case competitions, and promotes their adoption. Local governments selected through the competition receive administrative and financial support to ensure these projects take root in their communities.

In June, three projects were selected: Operation of Resource Circulation Stores, Making Jungnang Safe for Everyone, and Safe Restrooms Using Three-Way Reflectors. This month, on the 4th, the Making Desirable Apartment Complexes project was additionally selected, bringing the total to four projects.

With this selection, the district secured a project budget of 120 million KRW and plans to implement the projects starting in the second half of this year.

The Operation of Resource Circulation Stores project involves installing additional automatic recycling collection machines at major locations with high usage of cans and PET bottles. The four automatic collection machines currently in operation achieved the highest recycling collection performance in the Seoul area last year, demonstrating strong resident support. Due to continuous requests from residents for additional installations, the district plans to select two locations after a demand survey and install machines there.

The Making Jungnang Safe for Everyone project supports safety equipment such as locks and portable emergency bells for single-person households and rents out illegal filming detection devices. The Safe Restrooms Using Three-Way Reflectors project installs reflectors that monitor blind spots inside restrooms, allowing worry-free restroom use. Through these two projects, the district aims to build a dense social safety net so that all residents can live safely free from crime.

The additionally selected Making Desirable Apartment Complexes project includes promoting community activation contest projects, supporting apartment facility improvement costs to create a pleasant and safe residential environment, and mediating and resolving various disputes and conflicts occurring within apartment complexes.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “It is meaningful that many projects containing innovation cases that can help residents’ daily lives have been selected,” and added, “We will continue to discover innovation cases that residents can feel and quickly adopt excellent cases nationwide.”
