[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] The leadership of the People Power Party held a closed-door meeting on the 8th to discuss measures to resolve internal turmoil following the disciplinary action against Representative Lee Jun-seok.

Floor leader Kwon Seong-dong told reporters immediately after the meeting, “We all need to work together to resolve the turmoil early and stabilize the party. I expressed the opinion that everyone should cooperate.” Among the eight Supreme Council members, six attended, with some actively supporting the measure, and no members reportedly expressed opposition.

Assembly members Bae Hyun-jin and Yoon Young-seok did not attend the meeting. Floor leader Kwon said regarding them, “I will meet separately or call them to share opinions and ask for their agreement.”

He also expressed the position that the party must accept the disciplinary decision made by the party’s Ethics Committee against Representative Lee. He said, “I told the Supreme Council members that the Ethics Committee corresponds to the judiciary in the state system, so we have no choice but to accept the decision made by the Ethics Committee, which corresponds to the judiciary. We must accept it.”

Thereafter, the Supreme Council meetings will be directly chaired by Floor leader Kwon, who is acting party leader. Kwon stated, “We will hold Supreme Council meetings every Monday,” adding, “All party schedules will continue to operate normally as before, and I will do my best to ensure the party speaks with one voice.”
